Miller v. California Department of Education

Ella Miller was a twelve-year-old Jewish girl with family serving in the Israeli Defense Forces in fall 2023.  She was also a student in the seventh grade at University Preparatory Academy, a charter school that received state funding. After the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel, Ella began experiencing antisemitic harassment.  Other children in the school would chase her, yelling “We want you to die.”  She was also routinely referred to as simply "Jew." When Ella's parents complained to school officials, the situation escalated and Ella was told by Muslim students that they would "beat the shit out of" whoever had "snitched" on them.  Ella's parents withdrew her from the school because of fears for her safety.  Ella was forced to switch into a private school mid-year.

Groveman v. Regents of the University of California [UC Davis]

In May 2024, the UC Davis administration allowed pro-Palestinian protesters to set up an Encampment on the UC Davis campus, in violation of university rules.  The Encampment was located on the Quad and blocked a central walkway for the campus. Any student or member of the public wishing to traverse the campus through its central artery became compelled to encounter the Encampment and interact physically and emotionally with it.

Jonathan Groveman lives in Davis, California and is a member of the UC Davis community. Groveman is a military veteran with a service-related disability that limits his mobility. Throughout the duration of the Encampment, Groveman was denied access to campus.
